Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

This week's question:

How do you decide what books to read?
Dyane: Honestly, I never really actively look for books to read. I get a few recommendations from my friends, but the rest are just titles I randomly stumble upon, usually when I'm in bookstores or updating my 'Read' shelf on Goodreads. I usually look at the books' ratings first before anything, especially when I need a great book to jumpstart my way out of a reading slump, but the rest of the time I try to keep open to even the lower rated ones! :)

Pauline: I would pick whatever book from my TBR on Goodreads (which seems to continuously grow without end). Although, there are times where I base it on genre, or my mood (especially when I'm in for something tear-jerking). I pretty much choose randomly even to the point of not really knowing what the book is all about as long as its in my TBR. :)

I usually try to read my ARCs first but that's not much of a problem since I only get ARCs that I'm DYING to read. :)

Then I probably get books from my 2015 TBR shelf on GR or the library or smth.

Hopping through. Although I get lots of recs from the Internet, I still love wandering through the bookstore to stumble across books. Barnes and Noble isn't so helpful anymore since I'm there so often that it's not new - but I love wandering through indie bookstores.

I get most of my new books by browsing bookstores. If it sounds good, I'm in! And deciding what to read depends on what I'm in the mood for. :-) New follower!

Love both answers!! I look over my TBR pile too and try to shave it off a bit.

I'm a sucker for a pretty cover, but I also try to organise my TBR list with a spreadsheet so I can keep my ARCs in check :) New follower on Bloglovin'

I agree, those Goodreads ratings can be a huge factor in whether I choose a book! New follower:)

Completely agree with you! Since discovering Goodreads, it weighs heavily on choosing my next read. For the most part I'm a mood reader, so whatever strikes my fancy at the time is what I read. However I try to stick to my ARC pile.

Hi! I try to whittle down my TBR pile as much as possible! Like y'all, I have a list that is forever growing! New books that sound amazing always seem to jump ahead though! Happy reading! :)

Interesting answers. I don’t know what I’d do without Goodreads. :)

I agree! I always open my goodreads app and even read some reviews before I buy a book (I'm pretty picky lol)

I try not to pay too much attention to the user rating on Goodreads now. I read reviews (just because it's easier to get an understanding of people's opinions and whether I agree or not), but I've nearly missed out on some really amazing books because of low ratings... so I won't do that again!

I'm following you on bloglovin now, by the way! I look forward to keeping up with your blog. :)

Goodreads has been awesome! I don't rely on ratings because I like to read for myself. But your answers are great. :) New follower via Bloglovin'. http://angreads.blogspot.com

I'll pick out something I'm in the mood for too, and I do try to stick to my TBR list, but sometimes it just can't be helped! If I'm on Goodreads then I'll look at the books with higher ratings, I don't want to be wasting my time hahaha!

Goodreads is such a great place for finding books! I think I'm one of the few though that don't actually look at a books rating too much. I tend to like books that others don't, I like weird, twisted, bizarre stories so I can't look at ratings LOL

New follower here, thanks for stopping by my page, I followed u back & also added u on GFC

I don't like to read too many in depth reviews before I read a book, but I do like to check out the ratings and do some skimming, just to see if it seems worth it. It's hard to tell sometimes though! I've read some great books that have a ton of 1 star ratings and lots of a crappy books that have a ton of good ratings!

I also do check the ratings on Goodreads before deciding to put the book in my TBR. Haha! I used to be so active on Goodreads, but now I get my recommendations from Tumblr. :)

That's the perfect way to do it! I'm always looking for pretty covers, interesting book summaries, and Goodreads ratings! My TBR is just so out of control, I don't want to waste time on bad books!

nice :) I use goodreads sometimes (especially with recommendation) however, I usually try to stick to looking through book stores and reading descriptions and the first few chapters. If I am hooked then I will end up buying it and reading it and reviewing it.

Goodreads is my go-to place to get reviews of books. But i usually find my titles on other book blogs and through memes, but also if those aren't a help, I just check out my favourite genres and if I cover grabs me, I check out the blurb and go from there.

Haha! I'm the same! If it has been on my TBR list a while then I don't have a clue what it will be about a lot of the time. I usually have a quick read of it's Goodreads page before I start.

Thanks for following! I've followed you back via Blglovin'.

Pauline, I hear you on the ever-increasing Goodreads pile! I take four off, I put eight on. LOL!

Dayne, do you ever find that the lower rated books are better for you than what other reviewers rated them?

Great answers! My Goodreads TBR is constantly growing too. I feel like for every book I read off of it I add like five more to it. I am a mood reader too, so sometimes I tend to pick books based on that too.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for the follow!
