When I heard that Stephanie Perkins was coming here to the Philippines, I just went crazy. She’s one of my favourite authors, and I just really really really want to meet her in person. When I told my parents about it (I was asking for permission :<) they were like, DON’T GO; JUST SLEEP. I wanted to throw tantrums because I’m like I AM GOING EVEN IF I HAVE TO SACRIFICE MY SLEEP. Finally, they allowed me to go (yay!) I was so ecstatic, and felt like I was in heaven. (HAHAHA.)
I arrived in Glorietta 1 at around 8AM, and met up with Kim of Divergent Gryffindor (damn, she’s early: like 7 something :o) It was a great bonding time for us especially since we’re in college already and all that, so the waiting time = storytelling moment. (Double yay!) After a while, we heard people screaming and then we were like, WHAT’S HAPPENING? Apparently, Stephanie Perkins waved to everyone from her car. OMG. Total fangirl moment <3 <3
Despite being kind of early, I was already #169 :o Kim and I decided to eat lunch right after registration so that we can have some seats during the interview. It was still fail though, because I still couldn’t see Stephanie Perkins from where I was standing (HUHU) But it was fun to hear her voice. She was just so cute and adorable! Here are some few things that I remembered from her interview:
Interview with Stephanie Perkins Photo grabbed from National Bookstore |
- Stephanie met her husband, Jarrod, at the age of 17 through online. 4 1/2 months later, Jarrod took her to senior prom. She wore the same shoes in her wedding day as the ones she wore during her prom. (Awesome!)
- The theme of Anna focused more on bravery because it was the time when she was just starting out her career in writing. Lola was more on uniqueness and individuality of a person. Finally, Isla was about happily ever after. It’s about gaining happiness, and having it snatched away, but gaining it back again.
- Stephanie is currently writing a horror novel (total different from her Anna/Lola/Isla) I’m excited to read this! :D
- The movie rights for her novels are still in the market, (so someone please buy them HAHAHAHA)

I am so starstruck. Yep, that's me standing and smiling awkwardly there. <3
After the interview, the signing began. It was chaos. Suddenly there was another line being formed, and we didn’t know what it was for. Apparently, Jarrod was signing books as well. (AAAAHHH!) I met a few PH bloggers (yay) although I don’t think I’d be able to match their faces and names (huhu.) I wasn’t able to talk to them that much, because I’m so shy, but hopefully I’ll be able to get to know them more next time! (Yay!) We lined up for Jarrod’s line while waiting for our number to be called. Kim and I had our books signed by Stephanie and Jarrod by 6PM, and it was a tiring day but it was all super duper ultra mega hyper worth it!

Oh, and Stephanie's really cute, when she matched the Sharpie colours with the books. Teehee. <3
I’m glad that Stephanie Perkins was the first book signing event that I went, and I hope that I’ll be able to go to more book signings! :D Thank you so much to National Bookstore for bringing her here. The whole experience was just so amazing! Until now, I still can’t stop fangirling! AAAAHHHH.
