Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

This week's question:

How many books have you got on your TBR?
Pauline: My TBR is horrible. It just keeps on growing. I don't know why, but I can't find myself to stop click on that Want to Read button. And, the rate that I finish reading books can absolutely never catch up with the rate that my TBR grows. Right now, it's already at 541. Ohmycrappola. It's my goal to reduce it to 500 by the end of the year. Hopefully, I can do it. YAY! <3

Typography Tuesday #11: Before I Fall

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Typography Tuesday is a new feature where I will post my lettering works of book quotes. Works will usually be black and white, but there may be at times that colored ones will be posted.

Hosted by Tynga's Reviews

It's been a while since I went book hoarding, especially because of a busy semester and my reading slump. So, yay! I hope these will be enough to get me going to read for the next few weeks! :)

This week's question:

How do you decide what books to read?
Dyane: Honestly, I never really actively look for books to read. I get a few recommendations from my friends, but the rest are just titles I randomly stumble upon, usually when I'm in bookstores or updating my 'Read' shelf on Goodreads. I usually look at the books' ratings first before anything, especially when I need a great book to jumpstart my way out of a reading slump, but the rest of the time I try to keep open to even the lower rated ones! :)

Pauline: I would pick whatever book from my TBR on Goodreads (which seems to continuously grow without end). Although, there are times where I base it on genre, or my mood (especially when I'm in for something tear-jerking). I pretty much choose randomly even to the point of not really knowing what the book is all about as long as its in my TBR. :)

Typography Tuesday #9: Bright Side

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

Typography Tuesday is a new feature where I will post my lettering works of book quotes. Works will usually be black and white, but there may be at times that colored ones will be posted. All works are scanned but created by hand through markers and fine liners.

This one's from one of my all time favorite books, Kim Holden's Bright Side. Yes, guys, IT'S AMAZING. Go read it, please.

Anyway, I chose this quote for this week because it reminds me that amidst all problems and crazy stuff, reading books is one of the few activities that keeps me sane.

Typography Tuesday #8: Along for the Ride

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

Typography Tuesday is a new feature where I will post my lettering works of book quotes. Works will usually be black and white, but there may be at times that colored ones will be posted. All works are scanned but created by hand through markers and fine liners.
I got to attend a lettering workshop last Saturday, yay! It was totally amazing and I got to learn a lot of new stuff <3 This one's my output from that workshop, teehee. I just wanted to put this quote out from Sarah Dessen's Along for the Ride to remind people not to be afraid to fail because it's perfectly natural. So, go, dream big and take the plunge! :D Well, actually, this is sort of a note to myself also. =))

Typography Tuesday #7: After Hello

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

Typography Tuesday is a new feature where I will post my lettering works of book quotes. Works will usually be black and white, but there may be at times that colored ones will be posted. All works are scanned but created by hand through markers and fine liners.

This is my first time to do a digital work (huhu I suck at it so much) but yeah. I'd have to say that this quote from Lisa Mangum's After Hello really helped me a lot this year. Okay, most especially this semester. I had to write an essay about rote life, and stagnancy, and a lot of those stuff, and I can't help but remember this one. After Hello is a great book about life and advices, and it's a must-read! <3

Typography Tuesday #6: Ugly Love

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Typography Tuesday is a new feature where I will post my lettering works of book quotes. Works will usually be black and white, but there may be at times that colored ones will be posted. All works are scanned but created by hand through markers and fine liners.

Since it's summer time, it's also the revival of my Typography Tuesday! Yehey! But since I just came off from school + vacation (OMG I went to London, it's so pretty there huhu I don't even want to come home), I haven't made a new typography for a book quote. I made this one last year, which is from Colleen Hoover's Ugly Love. I'd have to say that I didn't like it that much at first, but when I reread it, I cried. Lots. Now, I love it! So, go, go, go, read it! :D

Typography Tuesday #5: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

Tuesday, December 23, 2014

Typography Tuesday is a new feature where I will post my lettering works of book quotes. Works will usually be black and white, but there may be at times that colored ones will be posted. All works are scanned but created by hand through markers and fine liners.

I've been skipping on Typography Tuesdays, and I'm so sad. I'm starting to hate college because it's taking away my time to read books and to make hand lettering. :< But, anyway, this one's from SPLFS (which is super cute!!! I love it!!) and I tried a new style by making the text all script and diagonal. :D

This week's question:

If you had a time machine (i.e. a TARDIS,) where would you go?

Pauline: I'd go back to the past and see what was like during the time of my parents, at around 1970s-1980s. Whenever something came up, they'd always tell me, "During our time, we didn't have blablabla." or, "During our time, we were blablabla." Having them tell me this a lot of times, I am really curious on how they lived before without all the technology and stuff. Oh, and it would be really cool to see the world without it having get polluted yet.

This week's question:

How important is good writing to you? In an ideal world, a book would be beautifully written AND have great character development, plot, etc. But in the real world, which do you prefer: (1) Great characters and plot with lousy writing or (2) Middling character development and plot but gorgeous writing?

Dyane: Oh, wow, this is a hard one. Of course I'd rather have a book that's amazing in both aspects, but if I had to choose one, I think I’d rather have middling character development and gorgeous writing, because what good would great characters and plot have if the writing can’t even do them justice? At least with awesome writing, even with only moderate character development, there’s still something that pulls you in and makes you want to finish the book. I don’t know, I’ve found that shoddy writing is just a huge turn-off for me.

Pauline: Unlike Dyane, I'd have to go with good characters and plot, because if I had no interest in them at all, then I wouldn't even bother reading the book in the first place. The writing doesn't matter as much to me as how much I can relate to the characters and how creative the plot is.

This week's question:

Have you ever convinced someone to read a book, a series, or a whole genre? What book(s) and who was it? Did they like it?

I have convinced people (but mostly just my friend Pauline) to read books. I think some of them include the Slammed series, Maybe Someday, Just One Day series, The Mortal Instruments series, and The Archived. I’m not sure if it was because of me that they read it though; maybe I was just that last push? I don’t know, haha. Most of them enjoyed those books from what I gather, but Pauline didn’t like the Just One Day series. She went absolutely crazy over Slammed and Maybe Someday, though, so that kind of makes up for it! :p

This week's question:

Have you met a favorite author and have a picture? Share.

There have actually been a lot of opportunities for us to meet awesome authors like Gayle Forman, Veronica Rossi, Tahereh Mafi, Ransom Riggs, and Mitch Albom, but for some reason the dates always ended up conflicting with our schedules, so we didn't get to meet any of them. :( Hopefully, they'll come back in the future and (fingers crossed) we'll finally be able to go!

This week's question:

What living author or authors would you like to have dinner with? (Try to think beyond JK Rowling)

Dyane: I’d want to have dinner with Colleen Hoover! I find her novels fantastic and it would be so interesting to actually be able to talk to her face to face! Dinner with John Green would also be pretty cool, because he seems like someone who’d be easy and fun to have a conversation with. JK Rowling would’ve also been included in here had the question not told me to think beyond her… haha!

Pauline: I'd say, I'll have the same answer as Dyane, but I'd like to also meet Katie McGarry and Stephanie Perkins. I just love their books, and they're so awesome! :) Their books have helped me realize a lot of things, and I'm really glad for it.

Friday, March 21, 2014
I would like to thank Alison Can Read and Parajunkee for having me as a feature this week. (Yaaaay!)

This week's question:

How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.

Here are a few things that changed from when I was a kid:
  1. My reading time. I was always able to find time to read during daytime before. Now, all my time is devoted to studies and other stuff, that I just find myself being able to read during night time only, which kind of reduced my reading time. A lot. :(
  2. My reading place. I'm not very comfortable with reading in other places other than in bed anymore. (Might have to do with the fact that I read late at night already.)
  3. Books. Physical books slowly became ebooks because they're more portable and less heavy. Though, physical books will always win. Teehee.
  4. Genres. Before, I loved reading mystery/paranormal/suspense books. Now, I don't really like them as much anymore, and just find myself focusing on books with romance and music-related stuff. :)

Interview questions:

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging on May 26, 2013. I remember I was so excited about putting up a book blog that I posted a book review right away on the same day. It was supposed to be This Is What Happy Looks Like, but my brain was crazily all over the place again (as usual) so the review ended up talking about The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight instead. (HAHA)

What is your favorite part of book blogging?
It's gotta be being able to publish new posts on my thoughts about the books I read. I've always had a hard time speaking up about all sorts of things, and having a book blog became an outlet for me to rant or go crazy about a book that I just read, and I just love it, especially when you hear someone going to try out a book because of your review. Awesome!

What types of books do you mainly blog about?
I mainly blog about YA/NA, contemporary romance and music-related stuff. I'm a sucker for those, but other genres like paranormal or dystopian might also appear at times. I'm not a big hater of them, it's just that I don't find a lot of books with that genre that I can come to love easily. (huhu)

What are your favorite books?
Oh, this one's hard. I sorta have a lot of favorite books, but I love books that involve family, and life in general, with a lot of lessons and stuffs. Or the books that are really very cute even though the plot lines are very simple.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
Not much has happened to me because of book blogging, but being able to talk to authors even if it was just a few exchanges of words here and there really felt awesome. I didn't even know that there was this chance to be able to talk to authors before I started book blogging. Oh, and when people just leave comments on posts. That always make my day. Everything's really awesome and amazing. (yay)

This week's question:

Spring is in the air! Show off your favorite outdoors reasing spot. If you don't go outside... Well, where else do you read that isn't inside your house? We want pics!

I don't really read outside the house because the only reading time I usually have is before going to sleep, where I'm cuddled up with all my pillows and blankets (teehee.) If it's really windy and cool, I take a chair to the something (veranda? terrace? not sure what you call it) in our house and just read. :D
